Fertility Drugs

Process: Injected or taken in pill form, the drugs release hormones that induce ovulation to improve egg production and make the uterus more receptive to embryo implantation.

Referred for: Women who don’t ovulate regularly or who have partners with very poor sperm quality. Avoid if you have damaged or blocked fallopian tubes or scarring from endometriosis (they require IVF).

Donor Sperm

Process: Sperm from a man other than the intended father is used during IUI or IVF process.

Referred for: Couples experiencing male-factor infertility, men carrying genetic disorders they don’t want to pass on to their children, single women or lesbian couples.

Donor Eggs

Process: Eggs are obtained from the ovaries of another woman (usually younger) and fertilized by sperm from the recipient’s partner. Resulting embryos are then transferred into the recipient’s uterus.

Referred for: Women whose ovaries are damaged or prematurely failing, or who have undergone chemotherapy and/or radiation; older women with poor egg quality; and women who carry genetic disorders that they don’t want to pass along.

Reproductive Surgery

Process: Surgery, sometimes requiring a hospital stay, sometimes done on an outpatient basis is used to correct anatomical abnormalities, remove scarring and clear blockages in either the man or the woman.

Referred for: Couples with diagnosed diseases or abnormalities (such as endometriosis, wherein uterine tissue grows outside the uterus, causing scarring and blockages).

IVF Treatment

Process: IVF is the process of fertilization by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish, and then transferring the embryo to the uterus.

Referred for:   IVF Treatment India is often a choice for couples in who are experiencing male factor infertility, particularly with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a procedure in which one sperm is injected directly into the egg.

ICSI Treatment

Process: Used as part of an in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment to help you and your spouse to conceive a child. ICSI is the most successful form of treatment for men who are infertile and is used in nearly half of all IVF India treatments (HFEA 2010).

Referred for:  ICSI is used to treat severe male infertility, as when little or no sperm are ejaculated in the semen. Used even if a couple’s infertility is not related to a problem with sperm. Some couples choose to try ICSI after repeat in vitro fertilization has not worked. And also by those couples who are planning to test the embryo for certain genetic problems. ICSI uses only one sperm for each egg. So there is no chance the genetic test can be contaminated by other sperm.
